Maunsell Forts

Perfect for inquisitive history enthusiasts, both local and from further afield!

The striking Red Sands Sea Forts, which form part of the Maunsell Forts, are situated just off the coast of Whitstable at the mouth of the Thames Estuary. Constructed during the Second World War to protect the area from aerial and naval attacks from Nazi Germany, the Red Sands Forts shot down 22 aircrafts and 30 flying bombs.

From the mid-60s, the forts were used for pirate radio stations, and a large broadcasting mast remains to this day.

The Red Sands Sea Fort boat trip is an exciting, eye-opening experience for people of all ages. The first 20 minutes of the trip will see us traveling out from Whitstable Harbour towards the Kentish Flats Offshore Wind Farm, before heading West to the forts. Once at the forts we will have around 20 mins to take 360 degree photos of the forts, with a short stop via the Kentish flats windfarm, and then we travel full-speed back to shore!

Our Red Sands Sea Fort boat trips are priced at £40 per adult, or £20 per child under 12.

Private booking is available on all trips, for groups of up to 12 people. Get in touch with our friendly skippers today to book!
